Keeping the same people from scene to scene
Extend, a reference video or a fresh render: which to use to carry a story on.
Every render starts fresh: the model does not remember your last video. What carries a story on is what you send again — the same people in the same order, the same costume words, the same description of the place — and, when it helps, the previous clip.
| Method | What it does | Use it when |
|---|---|---|
| Extend | Carries a finished clip on from its last moment. The model sees its last 5 seconds; the new seconds are joined onto the original as one longer video. | The action goes straight on: same place, same moment. |
| The same people, with the previous video as a reference | A new render that uses the earlier clip to match the place, the light and the people. | The next beat of a scene, written as your own shots. |
| The same people, no clip | A new render from the people, the costume words and the description of the place. | A new location or a jump in time. |
Using a previous video as a reference
- Download it from its job page and upload that file unchanged as a reference video. Do not trim, re-export or screen-record it: an edited copy is treated as outside footage and is usually refused as showing a real person.
- Only the first 5 seconds of a reference video are used. If what matters is how the last clip ended, use Extend instead.
- Attach the same people again, in the same order, so Image 1 is the same person in every part.
- Say what to take from the reference: "the place and the light from Video 1", or "the camera movement in Video 1". If it shows something accurately, you do not need to describe it again.
- Write the new scene in full. A prompt that says "continue from the previous scene" can make the model treat the request as an extension of the clip: the result then takes the clip's shape and leans on it. That is fine when you want it; when you want new shots, describe the new shots.
- Avoid editing words about the reference clip — "replace", "add", "remove", "change to". With a reference video, those can make the model treat the request as an edit of that clip rather than a new scene, and the render usually fails (and is refunded). Describe the scene you want instead.
- Repeat the requirements, word for word, in every part: ages, builds, clothes, voices and the look.
Extend, or a new clip?
- Extend suits one continuous moment: a conversation in one place, an action that carries on.
- Make separate clips for a fight, a change of place or a turning point, and cut them together: each starts clean.
- Each extension of an extension loses a little detail, faces first. After two or three, start a new clip with the same people.
A first frame cannot be sent together with people or a reference video. To pick up exactly where the last part ended, use Extend; to start a new part with the same people, attach them and the previous clip instead.
